A press kit is something that you give to someone within the industry in order
to inform them all about you (the artist) and why they want to pay attention to you
(And ask you to play at their bar, do an interview with you or play your CD at
their club).
A press kit consists of; - a biography, (mandatory) - a demo CD (or another example of your art), (mandatory) - a contact sheet explaining any technical needs you have, upcoming shows you have, what you press kit contains, your current, correct contact information etc (mandatory) - a press photo, black & white (mandatory) and/or colour, 2 photos max unless otherwise requested - press clippings of stories that are about or mention you and your art - a press release, the reason you're sending the kit - flyers for upcoming shows - list of upcoming performances, if there are more than one or two, or there is not enough room on the contact sheet (or anything else you are doing you'd like to draw attention to, like recording an album) Then you put it all together into a very nice looking folder and send it to that bar you want to perform at, the news paper you were hoping to have review your CD, or the local college radio station... Send it to everyone on your media contact list. |
