Biography

Long-known for her blunt lyrics and crisp, high-energy guitar playing, Tanya Janca has escaped the traditional female singer/songwriter cliché. As an alternative, she offers up folk that has a bit of pop, country, and punk in it, liberally sprinkled with political commentary and wry social observations, of course.

Even with a clear feminist slant to her lyrics, she still comes off as optimistic, hopeful and positive. Her latest work steers away from bitter endings of betrayal, to a new discovery of things beautiful and real. She covers topics that range from religion, current pop music trends, politics, romance and stalkers. In recent years, Janca has worked very hard to "recreate" her musical self.

Tanya Janca is about to release her fifth independent album in late 2011, and has been writing, recording and performing folk music since 1998.
